About CIPET
With assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Indian government established the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) in Chennai in 1968 under the name Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET). Training workers in various areas of plastics engineering and technology was the main objective of the formation of this specialized institute, as there was no other institution of this type in the country. It was carried out by the International Labour Organization (ILO). The institute was considered one of the most successful UNDP projects ever implemented worldwide, and it achieved its objectives throughout the first project term, which spanned 1968 to 1973. CIPET is currently a top academic institution for higher and technical education under the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India. Design, CAD/CAM/CAE, tooling & mold manufacture, production engineering, testing, and quality assurance are all fully included under its purview.
